Rosie McColl was appointed as Head of Brighton Girls in the Autumn of 2019, and joined the school in January 2020. Since then she has focused on providing a modern, future-focused, coherent educational model – a space where students can discover their passions and develop the confidence and self-awareness that will be so important to their future happiness and success. Talk to retired Head, Brigid Wells
Brigid Wells was Head of Brighton & Hove High School from 1978 until 1988.
Her vision had been to make the school “more open to the world”; in this, as in many aspects of her tenure, she made a huge impact. By the time she left, 11 years later, students were enjoying woodwork and jewellery-making, a football coach from the Albion had been drafted in, trips to Boughrood (our Field Centre in the Wye Valley) were more frequent, and 20 Spectrum computers had been acquired.
From her time with us as Head to an important part of our wider community Brigid sees the links between students past and present as their sense of “get up and go”; a “determination to follow their own path”; “strong individuals”, by the time they leave the school, with a “sense of where they belong in the world”.
