Our Year 7, 11+ entry, is our main intake to the Senior School. Set in the heart of Brighton we are very much a reflection of Brighton itself – creative, eclectic and nurturing. Our girls come from all over Brighton and Sussex as well as our Prep School in Hove.
During the current Covid-19 school closures, we have seen widespread disruption to the current school year and we have been considering how best to manage our 11+ assessment process for September 2021 entry. We are aware of the disruption many Year 6 pupils will have experienced due to school closures as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, and the impact that these extraordinary circumstances will have had on their education. We know that parents are understandably concerned about academically selective assessment processes, in the light of these closures, and have been reviewing our approach to the entrance procedures, to ensure that we gather as much relevant information as possible to inform our decisions and ensure that applicants are not disadvantaged by the lack of normal education received from March until the end of the summer term. We also place importance on the 11+ interview, references from your daughter’s previous school, and may also take account of other relevant factors or circumstances.
To start the admissions process simply follow these easy steps. For additional information email admissions@brightongirls.gdst.net.
The very best way to decide if Brighton Girls is the best choice for your family is for you all to come and visit us – either virtually or in person. We offer a variety of opportunities for you to do this, both formally and informally and we aim to make the whole process as simple and as stress-free as possible. We hold a number of Open Doors events throughout the year as well as Private Tours and Virtual Tasters – simply get complete the link below to arrange.
Our Application Form is the first formal stage of our admissions process. Girls will then be invited to our taster events throughout the year. These taster events provide excellent opportunities for girls to get to know us and to experience daily life here. In order to take part in our entrance examinations we must have a completed Application Form plus a copy of the candidate’s birth certificate and passport. If you are applying for a Bursary or Scholarship this must be indicated on your Application Form.
We have a two stage entry process. For girls in Year 6 applying our assessment day for Year 7 takes place in the January prior to entry. They’ll be assessed in maths, English, non-verbal and verbal reasoning, and will meet with a member of our teaching staff. We also have an Early Doors assessment day for girls in Year 5.
All candidates are automatically assessed for an Academic Scholarship through the papers they sit on assessment day. Other Scholarships and Bursaries are available, which you can find on our Scholarships page. Please note, your bursary application must be received prior to the assessment day – late applications cannot be considered.
Places for Year 7 are offered in early February following assessments. Following acceptance of a place you will be sent a welcome pack and an invitation to our Welcome Day held in June. Early Doors offers will be made in April and girls invited to join our Taster Day Programme. Parents are also invited to our Welcome Day in June and a Welcome Evening in early September when joining Year 7. All our Year 7 girls are given a buddy to help them settle in.
