On accepting a place a formal contract with the Trust is signed and a deposit of £750 is paid. This is automatically refunded after the pupil has left the school, minus any outstanding amounts.
Regretfully, the deposit is forfeited if the pupil does not take up their accepted place.
The deposit can be paid online here (quoting ‘Deposit for’ and then the name of your daughter).
Our lunches are always well-balanced and offer a wide choice of savoury items, fresh vegetables and fruit. For students up to Year 10, the cost of our two course lunch is £3.50 per day in the Senior School.
Pupils in Year 11 can select individual items from the menu, have the two course lunch option at £3.50 per day, or bring a packed lunch.
All fees are quoted on a per term basis and vary across year groups depending on the activities planned.
Individual music tuition is organised on a rotating timetable up to Year 9 and then at regular fixed times in Years 10 and 11.
Most orchestral instruments are taught – as well as piano, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar, drums, singing, recorder and the theory of music. It’s essential that girls practice regularly at home to gain the maximum benefit from the lessons.
Shared lessons in groups of 2 are also potentially available, but this does depend on finding a suitable partner for your daughter.
Prices:
10 x 30 minute individual lessons: £200 per term
10 x 30 minute shared lessons: £100 per term
If a student wishes to learn an instrument we don’t currently offer, we’re always willing to source an appropriate teacher.
Speech and Drama tuition promotes confidence and communication skills as well as performance skills. These classes will encourage your daughter to stand tall and find her own voice – whilst having fun!
When she feels ready she can also choose to take grades in ‘Speech and Drama,’ ‘Devising’ and ‘Acting,’ which in the higher grades all count towards UCAS points.
The lessons take place during the morning and lunch time breaks.
The length of lessons and the fees are set out below.
Private lesson 20 minutes £105 per term
Shared lesson (2 girls): 20 minutes £85 per term
Small group (3 girls): 30 minutes £82 per term
The fee covers one term’s lessons. The length of a term varies but on average this is 10 lessons. It will always total 30 lessons per academic year.

The Girls’ Day School Trust (GDST) offers talented and deserving girls scholarships and bursaries at 11+ and 16+ entry. They particularly focus on girls for who would find a GDST education truly life-changing.
The GDST is the UK’s twelfth largest charity and its bursaries aim to give every girl the chance of fulfilling her potential, regardless of financial circumstance. They’re based on the family’s financial resources as well as academic merit, and usually total at least 30% of the fees.
A GDST scholarship is awarded solely on academic merit. This is decided by a competitive entrance examination and isn’t means tested. The value of scholarships varies, and can be small, but most scholarships are about the honour of the award rather than the amount. A scholarship can also be supplemented by a bursary.
More information is outlined below but if you have any further queries then please contact admissions at admissions@brightongirls.gdst.net or call 01273 280170.
Year 12 bursaries can be awarded to both external applicants and existing Brighton Girls Senior School students.
We don’t conduct interviews, as applications are means-tested by the GDST itself. An initial conversation about eligibility should always be sought with our Head however. The school’s Registrar will provide details about bursary application procedures on request.
A small number of Year 12 Academic Scholarships are awarded each year. These go to girls who perform highly in their mock GCSE exams and in the scholarship exam and interview.
An interview then explores how each girl thinks they can contribute academically to the Sixth Form.
Year 12 Scholarships in Art, Music, Sport, Dance, Latin, STEM and the Temple Scholarship
There are a number of prestigious scholarships available to girls entering Year 12.
These include scholarships in Art, Music, Sport, Dance, Latin, STEM and the Temple Scholarship. Girls applying will have an interview or an audition with the relevant Head of Department and the current Head.
The Temple Scholarship is awarded to a girl who has made a notable contribution to the extra-curricular activities of their current school. Or someone who has overcome significant difficulties in Key Stage 4.
