Senior School PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

Our Personal Development curriculum is taught weekly. Each half term focuses on one dedicated unit, giving students the time and space to explore meaningful themes in depth. All year groups move through the same unit together, building a strong sense of whole-school coherence and shared experience. Wherever possible, these units are also aligned with wider national events, such as Parliament Week, Pride Month, and Science Week, so that learning feels relevant, timely, and connected to the world beyond school.

Our units include:

  • Me, Myself, and I
  • Me @ 25
  • My Life Online
  • My Body, My Choices
  • The World Around Me
  • Me and My Mind

Students build an individual portfolio that remains with them over the course of their time at Brighton Girls. Within their portfolio there is a reflective journey which documents their growth, changing developments in their thoughts and inspired ideas.

Personal Development Week

We host two Personal development weeks per academic year which our dedicated Head of Personal Development plans, alongside other colleagues, to ensure an engaging and varied week for all of our students. Activities include Zumba, laughter therapy and Business Enterprise Challenge days as well as visits to assault courses, trips to our very own outdoor centre in Wales and adventures abroad.

The school has shaped my girls into happy confident young women who enjoy everyday school life. They are doing well academically and most importantly socially.

Wellbeing at Brighton Girls

Play

Wellbeing

Wellbeing is an important aspect of Brighton Girls. We create an environment where every student feels safe, supported, and able to thrive. By focusing on emotional, social, and physical health, students can flourish both in and out of the classroom. By fostering strong relationships, promoting open conversations about mental health, we ensure we promote students to be able to embed our values in themselves, becoming kind, bold and resilient.

Careers

Thinking about opportunities in the wider world begins as early as Year 7. Students learn about their own strengths and passions to explore what success means to them.

Peer Support

Year 9 students have the opportunity to train to be Peer Supporters in Year 10.

Peer Supporters bond with new Year 7 pupils to help them settle in. They also help students up to Year 9 with anything from friendship advice to homework.

The Year 8 pupils act as Transition Prefects to support the process of moving up to Year 7 successfully. At points through the year, the Transition Prefects come and spend time with Year 6 pupils to develop their knowledge of the Senior School and to offer insights into life in the Seniors.
