For thousands of years, people have created art with their own hands and imagination. But in 2022, artists working in various media raised concerns about the impact that AI could have on their ability to earn money.
While a beautiful, moving and authentic painting might take an artist days to make, AI can now whip up something just as ‘amazing’ in a matter of seconds, and then sell them for the same price. This is stealing artists’ jobs and how they make money.
Three in five Artists feel that the use of AI in research could undermine artists’ property, and result in authors not being recognized appropriately for use of their work. A quarter of those in the early stages of their careers have said they do not agree with the idea of ‘AI art.’
Authors are even being asked to let AI learn their style of writing and copy them. As said by the BBC, ‘In numerous industries, AI is being used to produce work that was once the exclusive domain of the human mind.’
Different artists respond to AI differently. Some authors argue that we will never be replaced by AI because the books that are created by it are just plain bad. Some find it worrying and one of the top problems they face now as people are taking advantage and using it to write songs and stories when all they have to do is put a vague idea into ChatGPT.
Overall, personally, I think that AI is affecting the art industry too much, and that artists should be left alone to do what they have been doing for years: creating paintings, music, and books from their own mind and imaginations.
