Everyone knows about climate change. But not everyone knows how to help reverse it. Animals are dying, losing their homes, the oceans are becoming floating trash islands, temperatures are rising and starting wildfires and now there is flooding due to rising sea levels. If we don’t take action soon, there might not be many more generations. All of these terrible situations are because of us, this is our fault.

We can’t change the past, but we can change the future.

What is happening?

Before I tell you about how to help, I think it’s important to understand why you’re doing it. Here are two key situations happening around the world:

In Europe and the Arctic global temperatures are rising more than any other continents, countries and cities in the world.

Approximately 85% of California’s population live and work in coastal counties. The sea level along California’s coasts has risen nearly 8 inches in the past century and is projected to rise by as much as 20 to 55 inches by the end of the century.

How to help

Here are some things you can do help the environment:

When you think you have finished with toothpaste, hand cream, make up, anything like that, if it’s in a tube, chop off the top and you can scrape off the product from the sides. You will find there is still a lot left, you just couldn’t get to it.

Go litter picking at the beach or park, just 30 minutes a week can make a big difference.

If you’re finished with a nutella jar or a jam jar then, instead of chucking them away, you could use them as a plant pot, a thankful/grateful jar, or even a pencil pot.

Use shampoo bars or keep refilling the same shampoo bottles.

You can use a cardboard box as a shoe box (as shown in the photo)

Here is an interesting fact about climate change

Did you know that not all recycling gets recycled. Only 9% of recycling actually gets recycled. If this has shocked you, you can learn more at GreenPeaceUK.

I hope that you have learned some new things, devastating or not. Here is a poem I wrote about climate change:

Was it Nice

Was it nice when the world wasn’t against us,

Was it nice when the world was all green,

Was it nice when animals were free,

Was it nice when the seas were clean,

Was it nice when there was a balance

When nature could flourish and thrive,

Was it nice when bees could swarm

And still have honey in their hives,

Was it nice when the humans respected the land,

Taking only what they required,

Was it nice before their inventions,

Before the Earth was wired ,

Was it nice before they burned the coal

And sucked oil from the ground,

Was it nice before there was plastic,

Before trash turned into a mound,

Was it nice when we recycled,

Was it nice when we reused,

Was it nice when we repurposed,

Was it nice when we renewed,

Was it nice when we saved the world

Was it nice, was it nice, was it nice?
