At Brighton Girls, we are proud to be part of the Girls’ Day School Trust (GDST), the leading family of independent girls’ schools in the UK. Being part of the GDST means that our students benefit from an education specifically designed to help girls learn without limits, equipping them with the skills, confidence, and ambition to lead lives without limits.

What Makes GDST Schools Unique?

Research has shown that girls-only learning environments and GDST schools offer some of the best foundations for success, with:

  • Higher academic achievements and greater confidence throughout education and beyond.
  • Sixth formers who feel better prepared for their future compared to those in non-GDST schools.
  • An environment where gender stereotypes are challenged, empowering girls to excel in STEM subjects and sport.

At Brighton Girls, these principles are woven into everything we do, from our reimagined learning spaces to our innovative curriculum and nurturing environment.

The Golden Threads That Shape a GDST Education

The GDST has identified key themes, golden threads, that run through all aspects of life at Brighton Girls and across our sister schools:

Diversity & Inclusion

We are committed to fostering an inclusive environment where every student feels valued. Through the GDST Undivided programme, students actively contribute to shaping a culture where every voice is heard.

Sustainability

Our students are passionate about creating a greener future. Sustainability is embedded in our curriculum and daily school life, empowering students to take action on climate issues.

Wellbeing

Mental health and wellbeing are at the heart of a GDST education. We provide dedicated support and evidence-based strategies to help our students navigate the pressures of growing up in a fast-changing world.

Preparing Girls for the Future

Beyond academic success, GDST schools equip students with the skills they need to thrive in the real world. From financial education to career mentoring and our pioneering LEAD Diploma, we help students develop the practical, mental, and social skills they need for life beyond school.

The Girls’ Futures Report

To celebrate the GDST’s 150th anniversary, a major research study: The Girls’ Futures Report was commissioned to explore how young women feel about their ambitions and challenges. The findings showed a stark contrast between GDST students and their peers:

  • Girls from non-GDST schools experience a significant drop in confidence between the ages of 14 and 18.
  • GDST girls, however, report greater self-belief and more confidence in their school’s ability to prepare them for the future.

This research highlights what we see every day at Brighton Girls, students who believe in themselves, take on challenges with confidence, and are ready to shape their own futures.

A Future Without Limits

Being part of the GDST gives Brighton Girls students access to a powerful network of over 70,000 alumnae, leading the way in fields from business and law to science and the arts. It also means they receive an education that is tailored to the way girls learn best, ensuring they are ready to make their mark on the world.
